Rena Butler

Some people just have 'it'- that subtle yet commanding presence that is completely captivating.  Dancer/artist Rena Butler is one of those gals on and off camera.  It's exciting to work with these inspired people as you can more readily step back and let the moments unfold once the initial direction has been discussed- they are comfortable with themselves to be vulnerable which leads to more exciting imagery.  I had the opportunity to photograph Rena while she was in Jackson performing with Bill T. Jones/Arnie Zane Company & M/Motions Dance Company.  This is Part I of a 3-part series.  The entire session lasted only10 to 15 minutes total but that was all that was needed to create really beautiful images.  Photographed in the studio against a white seamless with a single Profoto light and Photek softlighter umbrella as a modifier. -L
